Our Ethos

Why we do what we do

One and Three Quarters are a diverse-led theatre company led by disabled women*. We came together to create powerful performances by and for disabled people by making authentic, autobiographical work.

We formed as a collective of theatre practitioners, who meet at the intersection of disability. In our careers, our access needs have excluded us from making work, applying for funding or facilitating projects in the traditional sense. We created the company to challenge this, ensuring both our theatre-making and performance are accessible to practitioners (present and future) and audiences. Our aim is simple: we want to create work that prioritises inclusivity in theatre-making and performance. The company's four core members bring experience from performing, writing, theatre-making, research and lecturing. Within the supportive collective, established artists work alongside emerging talent as we embark on our second exciting project together, the Waiting Room.

We aim to open up the conversation about disability and invite our audiences to experience life from our unique perspectives. At the same time, providing an understanding of the barriers faced by disabled people on a global level. We are not afraid to be honest in order to tell our stories. And we value the importance of open, considered and enlightened conversations with those, who experience our work.

Our work is an honest portrayal of the experiences we have in our every-day-lives, and the difficulties we face in an able-bodied world. Through open, playful and sometimes blunt storytelling, we can to challenge the assumptions made about disability. We employ accessible and interactive forms of performance to engage our audiences.

We are #MoreThanThreeQuarters!

We use an inclusive definition of “woman” and “female” and include trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people.
